| This is an old piece I had given up on but while cleaning under my printer I unrolled it and thought it wasn't bad. I'm really getting a handle on how to do this painting thing. The paint is beginning to do what I want it to. I shot this under artificial light so..... I have it taped to my drawing board so I can't get it outside for proper lighting. |

| Wow Tommy your flowers are looking beautiful! The depth and the way you captured the 3 dimensional form is amazing. | |

| If you finish the rest of it as beautifully as you have done the central flowers, you will have a great painting. Judy | |

| As usual your detail is amazing. The flowers are beautifully rendered - what type are they? | |

| I have no idea what flowers they are. They were growing wild outside our apartment. |

| Fantastic flowers. They are absolutely beautiful. Can you give a quick summary of how you achieve such fresh colour and detail? I tired painting an orchid last year - not used to painting flowers, especially white ones. I even used the same colour background as you did. I will ppst it in completed paintings just called Orchid if you would be kind enough to take alook and critique. | |

| Wow lots of Canadians around here. I used to live in BC, Toronto and Ottawa. 37 years in all. I miss Canada. I actually miss the snow too.
Hayday: My process here is pretty much as you see it. I tone the canvas with color - a mixture of browns in this one - then transfer the drawing. I roughed in the flowers with a shadow color (basically) doing a little modeling. What you don't see is I learned that another overall scumble of the darkest color over this rough-in stage really helps me in the final application of paint. This scumble only takes a minute or two with each flower and there's enough transparency to make out the modeling underneath so no further drawing is necessary. The final layer is done adding the darkest tones first with the lights added last. I pre-mix about 4 or 5 colors and I keep all the layers thin. This way all the modeling is easy-peasey though a bit time consuming. I have a look at your orchid painting. |

| You make it sound easy. I checked out the website and tried to figure out the Scottish connections to your history - loved the kilt. Dale | |

| Hi Dale. My grandparents on my mother's side were Scots-Irish. I have connections to 3 clans - Hunter, Stevenson and McInnes. That kilt is a Hunter, handmade in Scotland. |

| Same here - My Grandparents on my Mom's side - from Ayrshire. Hay, Cree, Rennison, Taylor, Paton, Yuill, Ness. (I traced the geneology) I keep going back to stare at those flowers. They are so beautifully done. Thanks for sharing. | |

| Your welcome Dale. Geneology is a lot of fun. I have a thread that goes straight into Germany. |

| This is stunning - and it's not even finished! I love seeing how you work. My grandparents (except my maternal grandmother) were Scottish, and I had a great-aunt that split her time between Scotland and Canada. Are we all related? | |
