| In a purely economic move, I use Artisan but I LOVE Cobras. Darn, how money is making me compromise my art:) | |

Are Cobras that much more than Artisan in your area? I always thought that they were around the same price? | |

| Hi Improv, yes, Cobras are quite expensive here, and not usually available locally.
A couple of price examples are Cobra Titanium White, 40ml tube at $8.49, Artisan Titanium White 37ml at $5.99, or 200ml for $16.99
Cobra Cerulean Blue 40ml $23.29. Artisan Cerulean Blue 37ml $12.75 or 200 ml for $52.29
Artisan is much more affordable and is available in larger tubes, which also helps me afford it. But I LOVE the way Cobra paint handles; it is sublime.

| Hi,
Best Prices overall I've seen in Canada on WN Artisans is Toose Arts in Toronto (I'm in Vancouver)

| Thanks for these links Improv. I have been ordering from Curry's in Toronto (free shipping over $75) and Wallack's in Ottawa. Wallack's has better pricing but charges for shipping, so I work out the best deal depending on what I am ordering. | |

| I have used Artisan's WMO, but they were very difficult for me to paint with. I bought some Cobras and Lucas Berlins at the same time, and neither my friend or I could tell the difference between the two when we were painting. I'm sure the Cobras are better as far as lightfastness and such. But until I can start painting well enough to sell them again, I can only afford the Lukas Berlin. | |

| The Lukas Berlin are a great brand. My titanium white is always Lukas Berlin. | |

| I orginally tried W&N. I hated them. It scared me off of WSO for a long time. Once I started working for Daniel Smith and they came out they had us all try them out. I really like them compared to what I used in W&N. They are the only ones I have tried. | |

| I am getting ready to purchase some WSOs (haven't painted in years, but loved traditional oils/used acrylics but always had to paint fast because of their fast drying times and really didn't like that) ... I am thinking of buying a few WSO colors in maybe 3 brands (e.g. W-N, Holbein, Cobra) to see how they differ and which I prefer.
Question 1) Can I use the different brands together on the same canvas/painting or should I keep them apart?
Question 2) Does anybody ever mix different brands to achieve a desired effect?
Question 3) Any suggestions as to which three or maybe four brands to experiment with? (I am going to get W-Ns as one of my choices.)
Thanks!! | |

| The best WSO is Holbein. I would not mix and match... too much work for someone starting out new. | |

| I use different brands but my favorite is the Holbein Aqua Duo. I don't see any problem with mixing brands and have never had any problems doing it. I don't understand why it would be too much work?
I like the Lukas Berlins, the Holbein Aqua Duos and have some old Grumbacher Max that I still use but probably wouldn't buy again. Cobra is another popular brand.
If I were to purchase again, I think I'd buy the Cobras and the Aqua Duos and maybe some of the Lukas Berlins since they're so reasonably priced and easy for me to get.

| I also have no problem in mixing brands. I do like the Aqua Duo the best, seconded by Cobra. I have a lot of Windsor Newtons from when I first started and use them also, but when I purchase new ones, it is usually the Holbein Aqua Duo. | |

| I've used Cobras and really love them, but they are more expensive than the W&N Artisans that I use, so money has 'weighed in' to the equation. The Cobras handle really nicely, and have strong pigments. The W&N vary in texture from buttery to 'stiff peanut buttery', which can annoy people. Ah well. | |
