Another tiny 4"x4" study done on a Gessoed panel. I have been experimenting with surfaces, mediums, techniques… Always pushing.

All feedback are welcome.

Really lovely and you always do glass so well.

Did you make your own gessoed panel? I bought a sheet of hardboard over a year ago and am still painting on the panels made from it. It's really my favorite painting surface.

Have you discovered your favorite support yet?

Thanks Jan,

The gessoed panels are so cheap that lazy me does not want to make them. I put a little bit of Meglip with neutral gray as the first layer and let it dry over night. The next day I start to paint on it.

I however have discovered Fredrix Oil primer that I put on "Masters touch Canvas" it comes in a pad (blue colored out side cover) for water media. You can try the canvas as they come since they have gesso on it or you can put the Fredrix Oil Primer. I like it with the Oil primer and the tooth on the canvas is just awesome.

Thanks

Faisal

I'm glad to hear about the Master's Touch Canvas pads as I have a pad of it and really like it for gouache - the tooth is awesome for gouache too. After using, I affix it to a gessoed hardboard with acrylic medium and love the way it looks. I've never tried the oil primer but probably won't buy anything else anytime soon.

I am so tempted to try gouache when I go for a quick outdoor sketch. But I keep telling myself that I need to focus on oil. However, I feel that on those days when I can't or don't feel like doing an elaborate setup,… gouache will be a good substitute and that way I can get my fix.

I like the moodiness that you achieve in this one, but I find that the jar is so small that it makes the rose look gigantic! Keep up the painting, so good that you are experimenting and trying new things!

The rose is gorgeous, but I agree with Alan about the sizes. I also wonder about the highlighting. The jar is so much lighter that it makes it feel like the rose should be highlighted more or the jar darkened. I'm just not sure. Something doesn't feel in balance. Of course, I should talk. I don't know how you can paint so beautifully on such a small canvas.
