Sorry For Being Absent Empty
PostSubject: Sorry For Being Absent   Sorry For Being Absent EmptyWed Jul 23, 2014 9:15 am

My photographer sister out in Colorado conned me into doing an art show with her and we've just returned from a nearly 3500 mile "jaunt".

First of all, I was busy preparing for the show, then all the traveling, then the show, then more traveling as we had to see other family while we were out and about. It's just so good to be back home again!

By the way, the show was something of a dud. It was in a small town and although the quality of art by the exhibitors was outstanding, I don't think any original art was sold. Some of us sold notecards and prints and my sister did pretty well with her photos of recognizable local landmarks but it seems that buying art is not a priority these days.

How are art sales for the rest of you? Is anyone having any success as an artist? I've sold a couple of prints on Fine Art America which is heartening.

Anyway, it's great being back home and being able to access the internet anytime I want to!

It is fantastic seeing you back Jan… Smile. I sold a couple of artwork on DPW… but that is pretty much it. Smile

Hi Jan; my wife recently sold a painting in a group show, but overall, sales are slow. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason to which paintings sell, or to whom. We try to focus on practise (when we can) and look for the venues that have traffic, for future shows.

In all my art shows, I have always only had prints for sale rather than originals and did well with that. Most people at these fairs don't want o spend the money an original calls for. I had one woman see a print one time and wanted the original and thought that $15 was a fair price for an 11 x 14. LOL.

I'm glad you see you back and that you've had some success at FAA. Did you get some good photos on your trip for painting?

Thanks for the welcome back everyone.

Congratulations on your sales, Faisal! And I'm also glad your wife has sold something Alan. It's a relief to know that some art is selling.

Judy, even the print sales were slow at this show but I understand why people don't want to make a decision to buy originals at such a venue. Your story of the woman wanting an original for $15 is so funny. That sort of happened to me at one of the galleries I'm in. A woman wanted my red shoes painting and offered the gallery owner $25 for it. It's kind of a low blow to find out the amount someone wanted to pay for it!

Forgot to answer your question about photos. I did get a few but my husband is the type who drives like crazy to get to our destination so very little stopping along the way. Then we were stuck at the show so not many photo opportunities there. Anyway, I did get some nice buffalo pics and some very bleak looking landscapes and a few of those fields of windmills along the Colorado and Kansas state lines. Actually very few that inspire a painting.

I'm often impressed by the wind turbines that spread out over areas of Texas and Oklahoma and have ofter thought about doing something with them in a painting. Unfortunately, I'm the only driver and really can't stop along the Interstates to snap some photos of an area that catches my eye. Maybe someday.

Judy, my photos of those wind turbines came out surprisingly well considering they were taken going down the highway at the speed limit plus 5 mph! Actually the day was cloudy and overcast so no great lighting but if you think you might be able to use them, I'll be glad to either send them to you or to post them here. Since they were taken at a distance, you might want me to send them to you at a high resolution so you can zoom in or whatever.

Just let me know.

I'd love to see t hem. They don't have to be hi res, especially if you email them, since I wouldn't really need detail as much as the perception of shape and distance. You could post them in the Forum Library
under buildings and structures.

Judy, I've uploaded 3 photos and they seem to look ok especially since we were speeding down the interstate and I didn't even have time to open the window! You can see a slight reflection in a couple of them. Hope they help!
