PostSubject: Re: A few tulips   A few tulips EmptyFri Aug 22, 2014 8:29 pm

Here is a little painting for a friend who wanted red tulips...
11 X 14
I am less happy than with my fruits. Less detailed maybe... It is made from a photo on the internet, I would have like more details and different light values...
Feel free to comment, for help, thanks

Aaaa..... sorry, I edited and no more "insert photo" button...... please see next post

Hello,

Very lovely, this is a style by itself and definitely stands on its own in a majestic way.

However, are you trying to achieve "realism" in the classical sense, if so then that is a slightly different path. Then you have to worry about edges, give focus on one or a few of the flowers and leaves etc. Bring variations in the colors of the flowers. But you don't have to do that, that is just one of way of approaching painting, and you don't have to do that.

Hello Faisal
Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated.
Well, I do not know if I try to achieve realism, perhaps a little more, yes. But my skills are not at this point yet.
For the edges, this painting was almost finished when I read your comment on my fruits, about edges. I understand what you say, and I'll try to think about the edges next time. But I am not sure I know how to do, well, I am only at the beginning of my painting journey, I have so much to learn !
I can't wait for next week, the painting lessons are back !

Beautiful work, Gomme, nice to see your style of high intensity colour and shapes. It looks like the type of painting for a home, cheerful and bright!

Thank you Alan.
It is for a friend home, she wanted red tulips on her white wall, I hope she'll be pleased.

I think you did a beautiful job with this. We all tend to want to exactly duplicate photos or real objects as we start to learn, but in time you will realize how to put a little more of your individuality into the paintings such as adding hints of other colors that would make the individual flowers more interesting. You did, by the way, put soft edges in the tulip furthest back on the right, specifically on the interior edges of the individual pedals. That tulip has the feeling of being slightly out of focus and has a slightly darker value which, together, help recede it into the background.
