PostSubject: A Horse is a Horse...   Mon Jul 28, 2014 11:49 am

I just finished painting this for a course from Digital Art Academy on painting horses. Even though it is done digitally, I use all my traditional techniques to accomplish it. I learn something new every time. In this course, I learned that if you highlight the eye just as you would a water drop, it gives that transparency and spherical form you see in a real eye.

See the picture below.

Another good one, Judy! I've done some somewhat abstract or impressionistic horses but would like to more realistic ones. The eye highlight does add to the painting!

I'm sure this one will sell quickly!

Treating the eye as a water droplet with, not only reflective light, but also refractive light as in the lighter color in the bottom of the eye, really makes a difference.

Thanks for the demo - that's very effective and will certainly help if I ever get brave enough to tackle a horse!

Thanks Faisal. I'm trying to find the time to do horses. I just really love them.
