Hello friends,

Some of you have seen me posting my portraits before, and to me portraits are the ultimate challenge. So here is one more step towards the summit.

This is a monochrome study (Transparent Oxide Brown and Gamsol) of my self, staring into the mirror. This time my goal was achieving "likeness" and I think this is pretty darn close. The family is saying so.. so that is good (my children are very honest about this… they don't hold back…  Very Happy ). I am very pleased at how I have improved at measuring by sight, and value judgment over time… off course, I still have miles to go.

As always please do provide your feedback. Thanks

So glad to see you back working on portraits. Since I've never seen you in person, I don't know how close the likeness is but I'm sure the family is right about it looking like you.

But it does look like a good portrait and if you've accomplished the likeness, then I think you're there!

Faisal, it might be the sepia tone you used, but this reminds me of sports photos from the 1920's. It has a thoughtful air about it, slightly nostalgic too.

I really like this portrait, especially where you have made hard and soft edges. I find that so 'hard' to do (sorry:)

Thanks Alan, We all have our weaknesses… but the whole fun is the journey and the struggle along the way.

You did a terrific job on this. I've never been successful in doing portraits except with soft pastels. I use a velour pastel paper which gives the feel of softness.

Thanks Judy,

I have transformed this into a color work, which I will be posting shortly… Smile

Can't wait to see it. I hope you put a little bit of a smile in it, though.
