I'm making some progress with the Brittle Hill comic book. I'll post some of the images here, it appears to be the right section.
It's likely to be pencil, marker, ink and so on.

PostSubject: Brittle Hill teaser image   Wed Mar 12, 2014 11:29 am

A quick teaser sketch to promote the first issue of Brittle Hill.
It's pencil on marker paper, scanned, printed in blue on illustration paper, then inked in black marker.
Colour was added with Photoshop. Logo was designed in Illustrator, and added in Photoshop.
I am learning lots and lots.

Love it. I appreciate your explanation of the process combining traditional media and digital functions. Isn't it fun to have the advantages of both? I'm curious to see what your teaser sketch is leading to.

So glad you're progressing with everything, Alan. I really like your teaser and like the idea of combining digital and traditional functions. I do that some when turning my art into notecards - the digital part makes it so much easier!

So, when is all of this coming out? How are you promoting it? It's exciting to have a celebrity in our midst!

Hi all, thanks for your comments.
Jan, I will release an 8 page black and white preview of the first issue on May 3rd. It will be a folded piece, measuring 8.5" high x 5.5" wide. May 3rd is Free Comic Book Day, (who knew?) and a day when comic shops all over North America give away sample issues of various titles. So, I have a table booked at 3 local comic shops to distribute the mini preview of Brittle Hill, and talk with people there.

The 16 page full colour comic will be launched locally on May 17. Our city is having a Comic Expo (sort of a convention) that day, and we are renting a table. I might sell it in digital format also, that is still up in the air. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, but lots of blue sky ideas, for sure.

New promo for Brittle Hill. This little jpeg is meant for posting to Facebook groups and pages. It consists of a single word balloon, with colour background.

I like the graphic for this - will people know what it's all about or is it meant to send them to the website to find out? I don't even know how FB works any longer but can the graphic be linked to the Brittle Hill website?

It's very attractive and should draw lots of attention.

Hi Jan, this is just the newest in a series of teasers for the comic. It will only be seen by people who already know about the comic being released. I am being very careful of the 'portion size' in the promotion: no spoilers will appear!
The fun part of this one was working with the background image, and choosing the caption.

Well, the Brittle Hill comic is at the printer. The colour proof looks really good! We are going with digital printing of a small run. Here is the cover image fyi

Some information about the cover; the original drawing is approximately 11 x 17, in pencil. The inked drawing was scanned, then the inking and colour work done in Photoshop using a cheap Wacom tablet.
The final file is 600 dpi (!!) at original size, which I reduced to final comic book size at 300 dpi for output.

Sounds like you're getting close. Will it only be available in printed format can people get it digitally someplace?

It does look very professional, Alan. Yep, those digital files can be huge when you prepare them for printing but this looks very worth it.

Thanks Faisal, Judy and Jan for your comments. I am looking into making Brittle Hill available as a digital comic. There are a couple of ways to do that, each with its advantages and disadvantages. Once it's online, I'll let you know Smile
Now, on to Issue 2!

We launched our Brittle Hill comic book at Moncton's East Coast Comic Expo on May 17th. We had a radio interview, newspaper interview with photos, and a (very) brief clip on regional TV. It was a fun and fantastic day. About 1100 people attended the one day event.

We signed and sold many many copies of the comic book. We also made contact with 4 retailers, who are selling the first issue in their stores in 5 different towns and cities. Here is a photo taken at our art table.

Hi Faisal; we have submitted the comic to Amazon (Comixology site) for online sales. We are also looking into another site that allows us quicker access to the market. I'll let you know when there is a place to purchase the pdf version; the print version is for sale here in my region, but expensive to ship to other retailers. We are aiming for a 99 cent selling price.
