| I just started the Pastel class at Digital Art Academy and spent some time experimenting with the new Brushes (pastels) and adjust different ways they can react. I also added a layer pattern faintly over the painting to add a little more interest. The outcome was totally unplanned as I was just getting a feeling for the pastels. See the image below. | |

| These effects are very striking. Are you working with Painter, or another software program? | |

| I like the colors you've used for this. I always had problems using the pastel brushes but I think my Painter edition is like IX so I'm sure the brushes aren't as refined as yours!

| This is Painter 3X (Really Painter 13..they just are afraid to use the number 13.. superstitious I guess). I'll have to post some pictures of how this came about. It is really a combination of different layers using different composite methods which I try to explain when i get a chance to post the sequence. I'm in the middle of two courses right now so I'm a little swamped. I'll get to it though. | |

| Layer 1 set as default composite. Layer 2 set as "Difference" composite which reverses the colors to their direct complement. Layer 3 was a duplicate of Layer 1 and then also set at "Difference" which intensified the colors and brought in more of the black for the layer 2. Layer 4 was an overlay composite I added set at 12% so it would only be minimally visible. There was another layer which contained only my signature. The last is the combined painting. There are a lot of other composite methods which create uniques effects, but "difference" is one of my favorites. Judy | |
