| Hello all, USA is in the grips of the cold weather. Hence, this painting. Although we had a beautiful day yesterday and today is not bad either. This was done on a very cheap gessoed cloth surface made by Masters touch. Traditional are very easy to lay down on pretty much any surface. Any and all feed back are welcome. Time: a couple of hours Size: approx. 6" x 6" | |

| So cute Faisal and you did a good job with it. We got down to 2 degrees F a couple of nights ago but it's warmed into the 50's today. Supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow then drop again!
But it gives you an excuse to stay in and paint!
Oh, I wanted to ask how you deal with the smell of traditional oil? Do you use turps or other smelly medium? I remember even the so-called odorless thinner really wasn't & was the reason I gave up on oil painting. I didnt mind it but my husband hated it and it seemed to permeate the house.

| Thanks Jan. Woah! 2degrees F… bones start hurting at that point. We will have sleet today in the Dallas area.
I use Gamsol instead of the turp. It has zero smell, absolutely zip, Nada. Also, from what I have researched, the chemical portion that causes the smell, is also the component that is harmful and since it has been removed it is much better. Also I use Walnut-oil as a medium during painting.
I find that Gamsol cleans the brushes way better than water in WSO. So a swish in the Gamsol and the brush comes out super clean. You can also use baby oil instead of Gamsol. This is my process for cleaning the brush. 1) Dip in Gamsol and wipe on paper towel to get rid of most of the paint. 2) Scrub in Gamsol can, the kind that has a grate at the bottom and this will get rid of most of the paint. and wii out the rest of the paint. now the brush should be super clean. 3) I dip in baby oil and wipe and repeat a couple of times to clean and preserve the brush.
So far the results are awesome. You don't have to use Gamsol for cleaning at all, You can use baby oil for steps 1 and 2 (above) as well and it works good. But I feel Gamsol cleans much faster and better.
I use Walnut oil for thinning and it works great so I don't need to use Gamsol initially, I am still experimenting to see if I can totally get rid of Gamsol "during" the painting process.
Traditional oils are so nice to use…. especially for Alla Prima, I am in heaven.

| I like your snowglobe, the 'globe' portion really conveys the liquidity. The shadows on the table (or support surface) are very good too! | |

| I love it. The two snow men are really cute.
One comment about the walnut oil. Remember that it is thinning the paint but making it fatter in oil. Working in Alle Prima is no problem because everything is drying at the same time. If you are painting over several days, the fat over lean rule still applies even with traditional oils. You probably know all this, but I thought it might be good to mention for other people. | |

| Thanks for the info on what you use. I don't think I'd go back to traditional oils though as almost everything I use has to be ordered and sometimes they won't ship some stuff. I'm happy with the water soluble oils.

| You can also use Walnut oil to clean your brushes, etc. Just use Masters Brush cleaner on everything when you get done. Sounds like you've got it under control. Love your penguins. | |

| I clean my brushes just like you do, Crystal. I buy walnut oil in big bottles in the grocery store.
